How links support our work.
Some links from HQ Outdoor Co. lead to commerce sites, including HQ Triply. We may receive value when a reader follows or purchases through certain links, at no additional cost to the reader.
Commercial relationships do not guarantee coverage and do not change the practical standards used in our editorial work. Availability and prices belong to the destination retailer.
What this costs you
Nothing. A retailer pays a share of a sale it would have made anyway; the price you see is the price you would see arriving from anywhere else. If you would rather not use our link, searching the product name at the same retailer reaches the identical page.
How to recognise these links
Links that can earn us anything carry a sponsored relationship in the page markup, which is the signal search engines read, and they sit inside a page that names the relationship in plain words. There is no hidden category: if a link leaves this site towards somewhere you can buy something, treat it as commercial.
What the commission does not buy
It does not buy a place in a guide, a position within one, or the removal of a caveat. The order of recommendations follows how well equipment suits the reader described at the top of the page, and that order is set before anyone checks whether a link is available. Equipment we consider a poor starting point is described that way whether or not it is purchasable through a partner — and quite often the useful answer is that the gear you already own is sufficient for the trip you are planning, which earns us nothing at all.
Why the money exists
Guidance here is free to read and the pages carry no advertising. Commissions are what pay for the time spent writing, checking regulations, and correcting pages after they are published. We would rather be funded this way than by someone with an opinion about the conclusion — a commission follows a decision the reader already made, while an advertiser would be paying to shape it.
Questions and corrections
If a disclosure is unclear, if a link behaves in a way this page does not describe, or if a recommendation looks like it was bought, tell us through the contact page. That is a correction we treat as material, and material corrections are reviewed and applied as quickly as practical.
